FREE EVENT Open Mic Session – Thursday 28th June

***FREE Event***. Open Mic Session facilitated by Open Mic Mannor in The Market House, Blacklion on Thursday 28th June at 20:30.

“Open Mic Manor has been running for over four years now. We’re lucky to get people from all over so it’s great to be on the road again ourselves and popping up in Blacklion thanks to the Cathal Bui Festival.

Open Mic is great fun. We never know what to expect and are always amazed by who gets up to perform, and how crowded it gets. New talent pops up, and occasionally people that have sat quietly listening for months or years finally take to the stage.

The casual nature of Open Mic makes it a perfect testing ground and encourages the learning and creation of new pieces. Often we hear works on their first public airing.

Caife Bia-Slainte, where we run the event in Manorhamilton, give us great support. Zoltan hosts the night, and my sister Hedda and I do the background organizing, but really it’s the public who listen and perform that make the night happen.
The range of performances we hear is a great indicator of the diverse and creative community that live in the area, including music, poetry, rap and narrative.

Over the coming year Open Mic Manor and The Glens Centre are collaborating on a few Open Mics themed around borderlines and shared spaces as part of the “Across The Lines” project. We hope that with the help of the community here one of these will happen here in Blacklion/Belcoo so we’re excited to have this opportunity to meet some more people and get a sense for the talent and tunes here.
